Thank you for joining Ceres Magazine again, this time to explore the public transit system in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Our adventure takes place on buses and trains along with female operators, train engineers and conductors, telling us about their occupations, what led them to their job in transportation, and the difficulties and issues they encounter. A few male operators and conductors give us their opinion on working with women too, since Ceres Magazine is not only about empowering women, it is also about the men that stand by and support them.
In an attempt to shed light on public transportation—often seen as intimidating to neophytes—we take a trip down memory lane with veteran and rookie commuters alike, as they share their stories, experiences, and tricks on handling delays and other commuting problems.
And since one cannot venture into a subject without bringing some historical background, we look back in time, and celebrate Metro Rail's Twenty-five Year Anniversary, and get a glimpse at three of the major public transit agencies in Los Angeles County and Orange County: Metro formely MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority), Metrolink, and OCTA (Orange County Transportation Authority).
Finally, Ceres Magazine thrives on safety, so the best and safest ways to commute are also addressed, and safety and security tips examined with public transportation officials.
